Being Australia Day, and being down at the coast with my family we decided to get some fish and chips to eat down on the beach. I decided to check out how 'savvy' (how many times have I used that now?) the locals were at preparing my favorite snack. Now the last review I wrote I ranted about the inflation of sav prices in recent times. My troubled mind was put at ease when I noticed good ol' D.J. Blyth was selling his for a mere $1.50!

When I pulled the sav from it's oily bag It surprised me. Never before had I seen (and I've seen my fair share, believe you me) a sav with a texture like this one. I think they may have been using a fish battering method to cut costs...

The surprises didn't stop with the batter. I bit into it and 'What have we here' I exclaimed to the gathered crowd (My Mum), 'This sav holds no resemblance to a sausage'. And I told no lie. The innards were more closely related to a sago dish than a spiced pork sausage. It was as if someone had fashioned some meaty porridge into a snake (as you would with some play dough perhaps) and whipped it through the fish batterin' dish and into the fryer before they were left with no more than a porridgy puddle on the ground.

Maybe not an apt description of the sausage but it's the best I can do I'm afraid - I've never experienced such a weird consistency of sav...

The flavour was neither here nor there after these 2 initial shocks - nothing I'd drive the 5 odd hours to Bateau Bay to experience, that's for sure.

Maybe I should go the 'Dagwood Dog' they had on the menu board next time for the princely sum of $2 (I would have gotten both but I had fish and chips to eat (side note: bloody good ones at that)).

Now I was going to score this sav a 5.5, But being Australia Day, and D.J. Blyth being the Great Aussie Batterer (see what I did there?) he no doubt is - I reckon he was busy celebrating and perfecting his sav technique which might explain the oddness of the sav I recieved, so i bumped it up a point.
